Kenya athletics chief asks for temporary leave amid bribery claims

Kenyan athletes, holding placards and chanting, protest at the offices of Athletics Kenya (AK) offices in Nairobi in November 23, 2015.

The chief executive of Athletics Kenya has asked to step aside for 21 days amid allegations that he sought bribes to reduce doping bans. Isaac Mwangi wants to leave his post while the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) investigates claims surrounding two Kenyan athletes who failed drugs tests. The suspended runners claim that Mwangi asked for money to reduce their bans. He denies wrongdoing and says the allegations have caused ‘mental anguish’.
