In other games, Villarreal were 3-1 winners away at Zenit St Petersburg, Sevilla were held 2-2 by Slavia Prague and Valencia overcame Krasnodar 2-1.
Elsewhere, Dinamo Zagreb registered a 1-0 home win over Benfica, while in the clash of former champions, Eintracht Frankfurt and Inter Milan played out a goalless draw.
