FIFA is bringing a major football event to Dubai this October, featuring the Afghan women's refugee team for the first time in an international tournament.
The 'FIFA Unites: Women’s Series' is set to take place from October 23 to 29, with the Afghan women’s refugee squad competing against the national sides of the UAE, Chad and Libya.
This four-nation tournament is part of FIFA’s push to make football accessible to all women and girls around the world.
The round-robin competition will see each team play three matches, with the top side crowned champions.
The UAE squad, coached by Dutch veteran Vera Pauw, will be looking to impress on home turf, while Chad and Libya aim to make their FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking debuts.
"These friendly matches represent more than just a competition; they are a symbol of hope and progress for women all over the world," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
