The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre (FCSC), in collaboration with the UAE Prime Minister's Office and the World Government Summit, is organising a celebration of the first term of the Global Councils on Sustainable Development Goals 2018-2020 on Wednesday, December 9.
The meeting will also see the open nomination announcement for the new term 2021-2023 titled, ‘SDGs Global Councils: Preparing for the Decade of Action’.
The event will highlight the success of the Global Councils on SDGs initiatives' implementation around the world from the point of view of country representatives, council chairs, and the youth.
It will also open the floor for a moderated dialogue to discuss the importance of implementation during the Decade of Action with the challenges that COVID-19 presents on the SDGs along with the opportunities that crisis moments present and the transformation that comes with it.
The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre's Lead Projects Manager at the Government Communication Department, Christiaan Coetzee told ARN News more about the proceedings:
In addition to contributing to the global discussion, Coetzee outlined more details of how people can join in:
The Global Councils on SDGs is a unique interdisciplinary network of decision-makers from governments, international organisations, academia, and the private sector coming together to share innovative practices and discuss the creative implementation of the 17 SDGs at the national and global level.
The councils aim to work on creating new partnerships between countries, organizations, and sustainable development advocates for the implementation of SDGs through the discussion of innovative solutions, and integration of their findings into the United Nations global bodies.
