The UAE has reaffirmed its solidarity with Qatar, strongly condemning the Israeli attack on Doha and reiterating its support in confronting all threats to its security and stability during an urgent debate of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, Jamal Jama Al Musharakh, described the Israeli strike as a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of an Arab Gulf state and a UN Member State, and a serious escalation that threatens regional peace and stability.
The UAE representative emphasised that the attack also constitutes a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter and a grave violation of the core principles of human rights.
Al Musharakh stressed that the security and stability of Qatar are integral to the safety of all GCC member states, highlighting that any aggression against a GCC member state constitutes an attack on the collective Gulf security framework. He warned that the such provocative actions undermines the prospects for stability and pushes the region towards extremely dangerous trajectories.
The representative also reflected on the loss of Qatar's security officer, expressing sincere condolences and complete support on behalf of the UAE
He concluded by adding that the region cannot afford further escalation and instability driven by inflammatory rhetoric and hate speech, underlining the importance of upholding the principles of the UN Charter.
The urgent debate was held at the request of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
