The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has officially announced that the UAE will host the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023.
Making the announcement on Twitter, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, wrote: "The UAE is honoured to have been selected as the host country for COP28 in 2023.
"We look forward to working with the international community to accelerate global efforts to address climate change & environmental protection & create a more sustainable economic future."

Before being selected, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said the UAE would be fully prepared if selected.
"The UAE has submitted a request to host the COP28 conference in 2023, the largest global conference of heads of state and government on climate and environmental issues," Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, expressed honour at being chosen to host COP28.
"We look forward to welcoming the world at COP28. The voice of every nation and stakeholder will be heard, ensuring that, together, we not only help mitigate the effects of global warming, but also unlock new opportunities to realise greater prosperity and a better life for future generations," he added.
The current COP26 meeting concludes on Friday in Glasgow. COP27 is scheduled to take place in November 2022.
