The UAE has expressed deep regret over the UN Security Council’s inability to adopt a resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.
It comes as the United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on Wednesday calling for an "immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire" in Gaza.
The 15-member council voted on a resolution put forward by its 10 non-permanent members with only the US voting against, using its veto as a permanent council member to block the resolution.
A senior US official said the US would only support a resolution that explicitly calls for the immediate release of hostages as part of a ceasefire.
However after more than 400 days of devastation and a widening regional conflict, the UAE stressed the urgent need for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire.
“The suffering on the ground cannot wait any longer,” the UAE stated, calling for swift action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
