The UAE has been assisting in the repair of Khan Younis’ water network in southern Gaza, in an attempt to provide essential services and prevent further health disasters.
Under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, a specialised company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Khan Younis Municipality and is working on repairing water submersible pumps, providing necessary materials for extending water networks, supplying operational materials, solar and gas, and purchasing water barrels to place at central filling points.
Around 70 per cent of the main water network has been damaged, while 25 wells have been completely destroyed and 12 others damaged. The water crisis has been significantly exacerbated over the last months.
Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 has provided tonnes of aid to the enclave, including food, tents, medical supplies, and women’s products. The UAE has also built desalination plants and two field hospitals.
Hundreds of injured and chronically ill Gaza residents have been evacuated to Abu Dhabi for treatment.
