WAM

A strategy for the UAE digital economy to contribute 20 per cent to the country's total non-oil national economy in the coming years has been approved at the latest Cabinet meeting held in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting at Al Watan Palace, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, a Digital Economy Council was inaugurated, headed by the Minister of Artificial Intelligence Omar Al Olama, to oversee and implement the new policies.

The Cabinet also approved an additional organisational framework to support external humanitarian work, including the establishment of coordination offices for humanitarian aid within the UAE’s foreign missions in a number of countries.

Unified standards at state-level to licence and encourage family counselling professions, with the goal of raising the quality of the service and increasing efficiency, and helping families by providing the best specialists were also approved.

In education, the restructuring of the Board of Directors of the Higher Colleges of Technology, headed by Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, was approved.

The Cabinet recognised that education needs to develop outputs, upgrade skills and prepare for a future full of variables.

The Cabinet also adopted a set of international agreements, including linking the payment systems of Gulf Cooperation Council countries, alongside agreements with the United States, Denmark and Brazil.

They also approved the country’s accession to the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy to support the country's goals in the field of clean energy.
