Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has urged India and Pakistan to exercise restraint following an intensification of cross-border attacks.

Sheikh Abdullah called on both nations to avoid further escalation that could threaten regional and international peace.

The call comes after India launched airstrikes on Wednesday targeting nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistan’s military said six sites were hit.

In response, Pakistan said it shot down five Indian fighter jets and launched strikes into Indian-administered Kashmir.

There have been multiple casualties reported on both sides.

Tensions have sharply increased between the neighbours following a deadly attack last month that killed 26 tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed that diplomacy and dialogue remain the most effective path to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

He also stated that the UAE will continue supporting initiatives aimed at peaceful conflict resolution and alleviating humanitarian suffering.
