New stats released by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) show that over AED 2 million in lost cash was recovered from taxis during 2025.
The authority said it handled a total of 104,162 lost property cases in the year.
Around 35,000 electronic devices, including smartphones, laptops, and tablets, were also found to be left behind.
In addition, 3,000 passports and official documents, jewellery and other valuable personal belongings were also returned to their owners.
The reports were handled by the Lost and Found Team at the Call Centre that clocked the details of the taxi ride, and the return of the items.
The lost items were reported across multiple channels, including the call centre, which accounted for 56 per cent of the cases, and 30.8 per cent for chat service with virtual agent Mahboub. Another 10.8 per cent of the cases were reported through the smart applications.
Meera Al Shaikh, Director of Customer Happiness at the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, RTA, highlighted that "the lost property reporting framework is built on the readiness of specialised teams and effective integration between the Call Centre, taxi companies and drivers, supported by smart technology systems that help protect customers’ belongings and strengthen confidence in the services provided".
