An integrated urban planning system that encourages investment, sustainable development and prosperity, and improves the quality of life for citizens is to be developed in Dubai, as part of a new law issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Under the umbrella of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai's new regulations aim to ensure the security and safety of the emirate's community, enhance governance of the urban planning sector, define the responsibilities of related authorities, and improve cooperation, coordination and integration among them.
It will also seek to enhance the efficiency of preparing and implementing plans, strategies and policies, and monitoring and gauging their results.
It will regulate and oversee urban planning activities, ensure their alignment with adopted plans, strategies and policies, preserve the environment, biodiversity and natural resources of the emirate and will also contribute to establishing an environmental impact assessment system in Dubai.
Dubai Municipality will have sole responsibility for regulating the urban planning sector.
