His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a law that states that the Dubai emblem can be used by government entities, online, on documents, and at events.
The emblem, which "mirrors the values and principles" of the Emirate, will be "the property of the emirate of Dubai, (and) safeguarded by law".
Private entities can also use the emblem, provided prior approval from the Dubai Ruler or his representative is obtained.
Any misuse of the emblem will see imprisonment of a period of not less than three months and not exceeding five years, and a fine ranging between AED 100,000 and AED 500,000, or one of the two penalties as specified in the law.
The law also specifies that individuals, with the exception of government entities or entities who've got prior permission, must discontinue the use of the emblem within 30 days unless prior approval has been obtained.
The Chairman of Dubai's Ruler Court shall issue the necessary decisions to implement the provisions of the law. It annuls any other legislation that may contradict with it and is effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
