Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, underlined the need for a long-term diplomatic approach to stability in the region on Saturday, and said some media coverage has misrepresented the country’s position, as tensions with Iran continue to escalate.
In a post on social media, Gargash said the country had faced “weeks” of what he described as Iranian aggression targeting infrastructure and threatening civilian lives.
He said the UAE had responded with “steadfastness and efficiency”, stressing that defending the country’s sovereignty was both “an honour and a responsibility”.
However, Gargash also underlined the need for a longer-term diplomatic approach, saying a political solution was essential to ensure lasting stability in the region.
He warned against what he described as temporary measures that could risk prolonging instability for decades.
