Dubai Police have issued 8,152 fines to delivery riders caught using fast lanes, in violation of a new ban that came into effect at the start of the month.
The rule bars delivery motorcycles from the two leftmost lanes on roads with five or more lanes, and from the leftmost lane on three- or four-lane roads.
There are no lane restrictions on roads with two lanes or fewer.
The ban is part of a five-year traffic-safety plan, focusing on stronger enforcement, better road engineering, public awareness and improved traffic-management systems.
Penalties start at AED 500 for a first offence and AED 700 for repeat violations. A third offence leads to a license suspension.
Riders exceeding 100 km/h also face fines ranging from AED 200 to AED 400, depending on repeat violations.
Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, stressed the vital role delivery riders play in Dubai’s transport system, urging them to follow safety rules, stay out of fast lanes, respect speed limits, and wear helmets and protective gear.
He also advised regular bike checks, avoiding mobile phones while riding, and maintaining safe distances on the road.
Bin Suwaidan added that Dubai Police will continue field inspections and awareness campaigns targeting riders and delivery companies to promote a culture of safety for all road users.
