Bur Dubai abra station gets facelift under new RTA plan

RTA

The abra station in Bur Dubai has been redeveloped to increase its capacity by 33 per cent, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) works towards enhancing passenger experience.

The station, built using sustainable materials to reduce carbon imprint, has been redeveloped keeping in mind its cultural identity, with a sheltered outdoor space for retail outlets and upgraded tech systems.

It's part of efforts by the RTA to enhance the experience of abra riders, and step-up safety features at marine transport stations used by 14 million riders annually.

Three more abra stations have been selected for the revamp, with work currently underway at the Deira Old Souq.

Work on Old Dubai Souq and Al Sabkha stations will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, announced Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.

RTA said it has also deployed a predictive maintenance system involving the installation of remote monitoring devices and sensors onboard marine transport modes and conducts rigorous testing to validate the precision of the data.
