Abu Dhabi Police are warning motorists about possible fines on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road.
Starting from April 1, the implementation of a minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road will be enforced on the two left express lanes in both directions of traffic, with a maximum speed limit of 140 km/h and a minimum speed limit of 120 km/h on the first and second lanes from the left.
In a statement on social media, Abu Dhabi Police said violation warnings will be given from April 1 2023, while actual penalties for "driving a vehicle at a speed less than the minimum speed limit set for the road “will take effect from May 1, 2023. The penalty for this violation will be 400 dirhams.
They added that the third lane, with a speed limit of 140 km/h, and the last lane designated for heavy vehicles, will not be subject to minimum speed limit violations.
The implementation of the minimum speed limit is aimed at promoting driver safety allowing slow-moving vehicles to drive on the right lanes and always yield to vehicles approaching from behind or from the left.
The authority said urged motorists to pay attention to the road and only change lanes after checking that it is clear. Additionally, there should be a sufficient distance between vehicles before changing lanes, and signals must be used when making lane changes.
