Motorists have been reminded "not to forget" their children inside cars during the hot summer months as it could endanger their lives.

Posting a video on their social media channels, Abu Dhabi Police said guardians who violate this rule could face up to AED 1 million in fines and a 10-year prison sentence, as decided by the court.

Authorities explained that children will be exposed to heat strokes and suffocation due to a lack of oxygen when locked in closed cabins.

It's considered an act of negligence, which can lead to serious consequences, including death, they added.

The reminder comes as part of Abu Dhabi Police's "Summer Safe" campaign.
