As many as 494 phone scammers have been arrested in Dubai in the year 2023 for defrauding people under the pretext of "updating their banking information".
According to Dubai Police, the fraudsters used phone calls, e-mails, SMSes or social media to convince people to share their details.
The police also recovered large sums of money, mobile phones, laptops and SIM cards that were used to carry out 406 phone scams.
The authority has urged the public not to share their bank details or any personal information over phone calls, and to contact the bank directly if they need to update any details.
The cases have been referred to the public prosecution for further action.
