Mark Esper could be the next US secretary of defence.
In a statement, the White House said US President Donald Trump intends to nominate the Army Secretary for the position.
Esper is set to take over as acting defence secretary on Monday.
It comes after the resignation of Patrick Shanahan after reports surfaced of domestic violence within his family
