Four soldiers were killed and dozens were seriously injured in a fire that broke out at a military base in the Canadian province of Alberta on Saturday.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Sunday that the situation is still evolving, describing the incident at the Wainwright base of Canadian Armed Forces as one of the worst tragedies the Canadian military has experienced in peacetime on Canadian soil.
"The nation is in mourning for those brave members of our Armed Forces whom we have lost," Carney said, adding that he had ordered flags on federal buildings across the country to be lowered to half-staff to honor the victims.
He added that senior military and government officials will later provide a detailed report on the disaster.
