Dubai records 2% drop in consumer complaints

There's been a 2 per cent drop in the number of consumer complaints filed in Dubai last year, indicating an improved awareness of consumer rights among merchants as well as shoppers.

The Department of Economy and Tourism said it resolved over 58,000 complaints in 2021, with the services sector accounting for the bulk, followed by electronics and e-commerce.

Refunds and non-compliance with the purchase agreement topped the list of grievances.

"The decrease seen in consumer complaints despite visitors returning in large numbers to malls and markets in Dubai in 2021 underlines an increased awareness among consumers as well as merchants," said Mohammed Lootah, chief executive of the CCCP section.
