Boeing 737 Max 'more likely' to return to UAE skies in 2020

The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has given a timeline for when Boeing 737 Max aircraft might fly over the country again.

They say the planes are unlikely to take to the UAE's skies before the first quarter of 2020.

Instead of relying on authorities in the US, the country's aviation regulator will carry out its own checks to determine whether the Boeing 737 Max is fit to fly again.

The narrow-body plane has been grounded globally since March after two fatal crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia killed 346 people in total.

It resulted in 13 of flydubai’s planes ceasing operations.
