Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton said he is in the process of changing his name to honour his mother.
The Mercedes-AMG driver made the announcement during his appearance at Expo 2020 Dubai on Monday.
ARN's Head of Sport, Chris McHardy, hosted the British racer in a Q&A session at Al Wasl Plaza, where he shared his thoughts on a range of topics ahead of the season opener in Bahrain later this month.
Hamilton said he intends to incorporate his mother Carmen’s maiden name, Larbalestier, alongside Hamilton.
"I don’t really fully understand the whole idea that when people get married the woman loses her name and I really want my mum’s name to continue on with the Hamilton name," he explained.
Hamilton, who has 182 podium finishes under his belt, spoke about his off-season break following a controversial end to the season in Abu Dhabi last December.
He also spoke about the biggest lesson he has learnt during the course of his career in motorsports.
