The "Union for Human Rights Association" has officially been declared and registered as a public interest association in the UAE, with headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
Licensed by the Department of Community Development - Abu Dhabi, the Association comprises 16 specialised human rights experts.
The Association will promote respect for civil, political, economic, social, cultural and environmental human rights for all segments of society by supporting the fundamental values and principles of human rights enshrined in international law, the core human rights conventions, and international humanitarian law.
It aims to provide understanding, advice and opinions on national reports submitted by the State to international human rights bodies and mechanisms, and to cooperate with them to promote human rights and achieve sustainable development goals.
The Association will also prepare and issue studies, research, and reports for regional and international human rights mechanisms.
The body will help develop national programs, initiatives, and strategies, and contribute to the alignment of legislation with international law to protect human rights.
From the perspective of civil society, the Association will contribute to the promotion of a culture of human rights and the consolidation of its values and concepts in society; and organise related training programmes, seminars, workshops, conferences, and local, regional, and international events.
It will receive and follow up on complaints and coordinate with the relevant authorities for field visits.
