Condemning the "unjustified escalation by the Houthis" in several parts of Yemen, the UAE has renewed its push for a permanent ceasefire agreement in the country.

At a UN Security Council meeting, UAE Ambassador, Mohamed Abushahab, said Taiz, Marib, Shabwa, Al Hudaydah, and Al Dhale’e came under attack by the Houthis despite restraint shown by the Yemeni government forces.

He stressed the need for accelerating the conclusion of a permanent ceasefire agreement in Yemen, accompanied by a series of confidence-building measures.

This would provide the necessary foundation for initiating dialogue between the Yemeni parties aimed at reaching a comprehensive and sustainable political solution.

The Ambassador also demanded the Houthis' compliance with the resolution to ensure free movement of UN missions and direct revenue for the benefit of Yemeni citizens rather than funding warfare.
