UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has expressed his determination to unite the world around climate action as he welcomed world leaders to the UAE for COP28.
Taking to his official social media channels, Sheikh Mohamed said he's "honoured to welcome the international community to the UAE for the start of COP28.
"Solving the challenges facing our planet requires a shared vision and collective action, and we are determined to unite the world around climate action and ensure no one is left behind," he added.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also took to his official social media handle, to welcome to the UAE "more than 70,000 guests from 198 countries...heads of state, government leaders, ministers, officials of companies and international organisations, academics and media professionals" to focus on "preserving our planet for future generations".
"The mission is great... and the challenges are great... but history teaches us that humans must unite to find solutions," he said.
"Best of luck to everyone in this humanitarian mission, and we renew our confidence in our national team in hosting and organising this exceptional international event in the UAE."
