UAE announces new school model offering free education

The UAE has launched a new model for government schools, which will be run in partnership with the private sector.

The 'Ajyal Schools' system will apply to students in Cycle 1 (grades 1 to 4), in 10 different schools, in the first phase.

Private education providers Taaleem, Aldar Education and Bloom Education will be managing and operating these schools under the supervision of the Emirates Schools Establishment.

"The government will support those enrolled in 'Ajyal Schools' by bearing students' fees and all operating expenses," said His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

مدارس الأجيال ستنطلق بمناهج وطنية تشرف عليها مؤسسة التعليم المدرسي كاللغة العربية والتربية الإسلامية، بالإضافة لمناهج دولية في العلوم والرياضيات تشرف عليها مؤسسات تعليمية خاصة متميزة بالكفاءة. وتكلفة الطالب ستتكفل بها الحكومة بالكامل.خطوة ستتبعها خطوات لتطوير مدارسنا وتعليمنا .

The new education model will offer students a combination of national and international curricula.

The national curriculum will include the Arabic language, Islamic education, moral education and social studies, under the direct supervision of the Emirates Schools Establishment, while subjects such as mathematics, science and others will be taught based on international curricula.

The Establishment aims to apply this model on 28 different schools, within three years.

It has selected a number of schools in various regions of the country for the first year of the project.

"The new project aims at keeping pace with the developments in the education sector globally, and to strengthen the Emirati national identity by devoting it in the minds of students," said Sarah Bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education & Advanced Technology, and Chairwoman of Emirates Schools Establishment.

"It comes as part of our plans to develop the educational system in the country, provide more options, opportunities, and educational models for our students, and qualify a leading generation capable of creating the future," she added.
