A person suspected of circulating hate speech videos on social media platforms is facing legal action in Abu Dhabi.

According to the national news agency WAM, the suspect is being interrogated by the Public Prosecution in the capital for posting videos on YouTube that incite hatred, racial discrimination and disrupt public order.

Authorities have reminded social media users to be mindful of the UAE laws, adding that violations could lead to at least five years in prison or a fine between AED 500,000 and AED 1 million, or both.

"The Freedom of opinion shall be guaranteed within the limits of law, according to Article 30 of the Constitution of the UAE," said the Public Prosecution.
