A 'GigaFarm', capable of replacing 1 per cent of the UAE's food imports, is set to come up in Dubai’s Food Tech Valley.

In a global first, the project will boast six complementary technologies driving a waste-to-value ecosystem designed to decarbonise food production and maximise resource efficiency.

Food Tech Valley signed an agreement at COP28 with the company ReFarm to start construction on the facility spanning 900,000 square feet.

The farm, which is expected to be fully operational by 2026, will be capable of growing up to 3,000 tonnes of produce annually and recycling more than 50,000 tonnes of food waste.

This support the UAE’s move towards decarbonising food production and replacing 1 per cent of the country’s fresh produce imports with locally sourced items.
