Authorities in Abu Dhabi will expand the use of special COVID-19 scanners, following a successful pilot phase.

From June 28, the devices will be deployed at all land and air entry points, in addition to various shopping malls and some residential areas.

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has approved the scanners as "effective and viable detectors" of COVID-19.

If the scanner identifies a person as being potentially infected, they will not be permitted to enter and must follow the approved protocol and take a PCR test within 24 hours.

The move follows a successful trial of the technology at the Ghantoot entry point and in parts of Yas Island and Musaffah.
