Dubai carrier, flydubai, has placed a provisional order with Boeing for 75 Boeing 737 MAXs at the Dubai Air Show.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
"Looking ahead, proactive fleet planning is essential to ensuring we are well-placed to meet the rising demand for travel, a demand we are confident will continue to grow," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai.
"Anticipating future needs is a defining factor in the success of any airline and today’s announcement reflects our commitment to that principle."
Valued at $13 billion, the new deal allows flydubai to choose at a later date which of three 737 MAX variants - the MAX 8, MAX 9 or the as-yet-uncertified MAX 10 - it needs.
The order would include options for another 75 Boeing jets.
“flydubai is one of the world’s first 737 MAX operators and their plan to place yet another order, their fourth 737 order to date, reflects the 737 MAX’s market-leading value and versatility,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
