Godolphin jockeys James McDonald and William Buick are in bullish mood ahead of Tuesday's 'race that stops a nation' - the Emirates Melbourne Cup. McDonald will be onboard the John O Shea-trained Hartnell while Buick rides Sky Hunter, trained by Emirati handler Saeed bin Suroor, who boasts three runners-up in the race.

There's plenty of reason for McDonald's confidence. Hartnell is a Queen’s Vase winner over two miles at Royal Ascot as a three-year-old, and after winning the Group 1 BMW at Rosehill last March, he then finished fourth in the Sydney Cup when attempting to lead all the way. Buick also cut a relaxed and confident figure as he spoke exclusively to Dubai Eye 103.8 during the famous Melbourne Cup Carnival Parade on Monday. Sky Hunter comes here off the back of a good second at Newbury (UK) in September. "He could be the hidden horse in the race," said Buick. "He's been targeted for this so we have plenty of belief in him."I think he's got a great chance. And with this ground easing up a little bit it's going to suit him. If we get a little luck I think he can run a great race. "Godolphin have gone so close so many times, I think they are due one so hopefully this is the one."
