The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court has sentenced a woman to five years in jail and imposed a fine of AED 500,000 on charges of inciting hate speech.
She was found guilty of posting a video on social media which contained phrases abusive of men and domestic workers.
The judgement was issued in the presence of the woman, who will be deported after serving her sentence.
The court ordered the confiscation of the mobile phone used in committing the crime and the deletion of the offensive video from the phone and the social media account on which it was posted.
The authorities also closed the woman's social media account and permanently banned her from using any "electronic information system".
