The UAE has expressed serious concern over the worsening political crisis and spread of extremism in Libya. It’s called on the international community to intensify efforts to stabilise the situation by backing the country’s legitimate government in the face of criminal and terrorist gangs. The UAE says these groups also pose a security threat to neighbouring countries in the Middle East and North Africa region, as well as to European countries in the Mediterranean. The issue was addressed in the UAE's speech before the 13th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, delivered by Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN.
