The UAE has successfully mediated another exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine, involving 205 captives from each side.
This brings the total number of prisoners exchanged between the two countries in these mediations to 7,101.
It's the 23rd prisoner exchange that the UAE has mediated, highlighting the strong ties the country shares with Russia and Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict and easing its humanitarian impact.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said it was the first step in a bigger prisoner of war swap, after Kyiv and Moscow had agreed to swap 1,000 POWs each under the terms of their agreement.
"205 Ukrainians are home. Most of them had been in Russian captivity since 2022," Zelenskiy said on the Telegram app, posting pictures of smiling servicemen, many wrapped in Ukrainian flags.
