Inmates of Dubai Prison have received more than AED 7.7 million in financial aid and in-kind support from philanthropists and charitable organisations in 2023.
As many as 6,390 male and female inmates have benefitted from this initiative led by the Humanitarian Care Section of Dubai Police.
Nearly half of the financial assistance last year went towards settling the debts of 94 prisoners involved in financial cases, offering them a fresh start.
The support also included help with overdue rent, covering travel tickets, health supplies, educational expenses, and organising special initiatives to bring joy to inmates on several occasions.
Major General Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, praised the generosity of donors, noting that this assistance reflects the spirit of solidarity and tolerance in Emirati society.
He stressed the importance of helping inmates rebuild their lives and reintegrate into the community, and commended the Humanitarian Care team for effectively distributing the aid.
