Marking another milestone for Dubai Metro, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, highlighted how it hit 2 billion riders since it opened in 2009.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Sheikh Mohammed wrote about how Dubai had once again "delivered what we promised".
"The idea of the Dubai Metro is novel in the region. Although there were some conflicting opinions, we went ahead with a bold decision."
Sheikh Mohammed highlighted how "Dubai Metro has 129 trains, 53 stations, and serves more than 600,000 passengers per day at a punctuality of 99.7 per cent".

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, highlighted how the Dubai Metro's continued success serves as a testament to Dubai’s commitment to providing safe and reliable transportation to commuters.
"Dubai Metro has become the backbone of a transit system that connects various key districts in the emirate, ensuring a safe and smooth mobility for riders," he said.
On the right track
Since it opened on September 9, 2009, the Red Line has transported 1.342 billion commuters to date, while the Green Line served 673.531 million commuters.
Dubai Metro's average daily ridership surpassed 616,000 riders in 2022, indicating that RTA's efforts to increase public transportation usage are succeeding.
