Chinese President Xi Jinping has lauded Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam's courage for governing the city during the "most complex and difficult" crisis.
"We will continue to be unwavering in supporting you to lead the Hong Kong special administrative government to govern in accordance with the law," Xi announced following a closed-door meeting
Lam's meetings with Xi in Bejing comes after Hong Kong police fired tear gas in late-night street clashes with anti-government protesters on Sunday.
The leader also held talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
