Hotels in the UAE booked in 19 million visitors in 2021, a growth of nearly 30 per cent from 2020's figures.
According to the Emirates Tourism Council, more than 75 million hotel stays were booked last year, up 42 percent compared to 2020, while the hotel occupancy rate reached 67 percent, the highest rate ever achieved in leading tourist destinations worldwide.
The hotel sector also generated AED28 billion dirhams worth of revenue, amounting to a 70 percent increase on the previous year.
The number of hotels in the UAE increased by 5 percent in 2021 to 1,144 compared to 2020 while the number of hotel rooms increased by 8 percent, to 194,000.
The figures were announced as the council reviewed national plans to develop a tourism data system in accordance with best global practices to promote tourism in foreign markets to increase international visitors to the UAE.
